I’m thinking of getting an Xbox 360 in the future, but it sounds like my first console was never going to be an Xbox 360 controller! A former top official of Canada’s oil sands firm says the company plans to stop expanding under a new deal.
Bill McGuinty — an economist who was the lead negotiator over oil sands exploration in the 1990s — said in a recent interview that under the proposed Canadian Free Energy Plan, “we’ll start seeing the decline of a massive and complex system of pipelines and hydrocarbons with hundreds of thousands of barrels of these crude.”
McGuinty, who was Canada’s finance minister in the late 1990s and was at one of the parties to the 1995 deal, predicted that after five years of negotiations with Canada and six separate bids for the pipeline, the U.S. would pull out.
“When we’ve pulled out,” he said, “the U.S. will have another pipeline with about 300 million barrels
